A Fitting End to a Great Year

Meddies end the year on a high note

The Meddies had a great year, and it was capped off by a great final concert in the Bowdoin Chapel.

The 2004-2005 Meddies began thinking of the concert as a way to showcase the new pieces that had been performed over the course of the academic year. With well over fifteen new or revived additions to the repertoire, though, there were challenges beyond the ability to perform the songs.

Using a random "pick the next song out of a hat" scheme,

the Meddies kept the audience involved, and occasionally thew in jokes and skits between the pieces.

The group ended the first half of their concert with a new premiere of a dance number, Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean." Some were amused, some were entertained, some were disgusted, but all were affected in some way, seeing the less-than-entirely deft Meddies busting some of their best moves. And when we say "busting," you can take that in both positive and negative senses!

The concert came to a conclusion with the seniors, Charlie Ashley M'05 and Jack Wilkinson M'05, singing solos for the last time as members of the current group, and underclassmen prefaced these final performances with some nice words about each of the members.

The Meddies had an extraordinarily active year, with dozens of performances ranging from Nashville to Bangor and from August to May. They were featured on the official recording of the Rex Organization's Mardi Gras theme song, on a major New England morning radio show, and on the stages of many college and high school campuses.

The group now takes the summer off to try to recover and get back to normalcy before reconvening in Connecticut in August to warm up for another great year.

Thanks to everyone who came out to support the group, it was a fantastic year!
