About Our Music
Collegiate a cappella
Since the early 1990s, the collegiate a cappella movement has showcased singing groups attempting to replicate pop and pop-style music without the use of instruments. This includes the use of vocal percussion--where one or two singers make drum sounds with their mouth--and vocal instrumentation--where singers try to more-or-less cover a guitar, bass, piano, etc. part vocally. If you have never heard it before, your first listen may leave you in disbelief, but trust us, there really are no instruments.
The kinds of songs covered under this 'contemporary' repertoire include today's popular music, classic rock, oldies, and almost everything in between. Be sure to check out our repertoire list to see what we're currently singing.
Classic Repertoire
As the nation's third-oldest collegiate a cappella group, we not only have a long and storied history, but a repertoire that spans eight decades.
Our contemporary repertoire is typically complimented by an equal number of songs from the classic repertoire, and includes barbershop standards, close harmony favorites, college songs, original compositions, and comic numbers, all stylized by the unique blend that distinguished the Meddiebempsters as one of the nation's finest performing ensembles from the 1930s through the 1970s.
